This is probably going to be one of the most important podcasts to listen to if you have any designs to expand your career outside of South Africa.  Sat Bisla from A&R Worldwide in Los Angeles returns for his 2nd Music Network, along with key a Organising Member from the Great Escape Festival in the UK. Great news this year, is that The Great Escape (TGE) next year will host a South African event, which will involve the British Council.

Converse had a national band competition recently, in which I was chosen to be one of the judges. Of over 150 bands, only 10 made it through to the finals (and only 1 won it chosen simply by public votes).
We all know now that Matthew Mole was the winner with the most votes but a lot of bands have asked me how we judged the competition.

Please take me with a pinch of salt because I tend to not pull any punches. If you’ve got thick skin and are able to listen to feedback, then dig into the first hour of these 2 episodes of critical feedback for all the artists that entered.

Garrett is an incredible music and fashion photographer who has worked with a lot of SA’s most credible artists. He has done a lot of work with Die Antwoord and many other challenging artists. On this week’s podcast we talk about the importance of a good photo of a band, how Ross collaborates with his subjects, what it was like working with Die Antwoord and other relevent tidbits. Ross’s first exhibition opens on 7 October at the Glow Gallery in Johannesburg. Check out his work over here.
