Converse had a national band competition recently, in which I was chosen to be one of the judges. Of over 150 bands, only 10 made it through to the finals (and only 1 won it chosen simply by public votes).
We all know now that Matthew Mole was the winner with the most votes but a lot of bands have asked me how we judged the competition.

Please take me with a pinch of salt because I tend to not pull any punches. If you’ve got thick skin and are able to listen to feedback, then dig into the first hour of these 2 episodes of critical feedback for all the artists that entered.

I hope i survive the aftermath…

Do you love the Parlotones? Do you hate them? Well it doesn’t matter, because no one can deny the stratospheric unprecedented success that they have had on the SA music industry. Was it luck? Was it genius? Find out in Part I of this interview with the manager of the Parlotones about how he helped the band stand out above the rest and has made them in to a bona fide geniune success currently making dents in countries all over the world. Probably the most valuable interview in any band’s career.

This week is a very special podcast. Unfortunately it wont help you if you are trying to get into the music scene, but it will make you happy if you are a Kings of Leon fan.

I invited two of the band members to take over my radio show for a handful of songs. They chose the music, did the DJ’ing and had free reign. I’ve had a lot of requests to put this up online somewhere so here it is!

Enjoy!!
